More reactions continue to trail the singing of controversial Same-Sex Marriage Prohibition Bill, popularly known as the Anti-Gay Law.
Nigerian musician Seun Kuti took his Facebook page to express annoyance with this new law:
“One man fuck another man, 14 years in prison but one man fuck all of us, 6 Months in prison or 250000 fine max and u are jubilating because u are religious and African. A man can not as much change his race as he can his sexuality so why blame the whites and Arab for criminalizing the black skin. We don’t choose who we are”, his post said.
Another celeb, On-Air-Personality Gbemi O.O expressed a big concern over the options this Bill provides:
“All it takes is for someone to be set up and accused of being gay and then the person gets jailed for 14 years,” she tweeted.
Media personality, Tosyn Bucknor has vowed to relocate from Nigeria over the new anti-gay law.
Tosyn made his position known on her Facebook page.
Recall that President Jonathan signed a bill that criminalizes same-sex relationships and gay rights groups in Nigeria, thus defying pressure from western governments to respect gay and lesbian rights.
The bill, which contains penalties of up to 14 years in prison, bans every gay marriage, same-sex “amorous relationships” and membership of gay rights groups.
Reacting to the development, the top OAP took to her Facebook page saying, “There is no way me I am not relocating from Nigeria sha. Even if I braved through no power, bad roads, insecurity and all, this bill against consenting adults’ sexual behaviour is just pathetic, discriminatory and hypocritical. And to make it worse, then they even criminalise Gay Rights’ Groups. Congrats Nigeria, you always make me ashamed of you,” she said.
